GNVQ Courses Example Proforma

Activity: Rock Climbing

Working with Others

Element 1.1 Identify Collective Goals and Responsibilities

Describe the group goals that were set for the rock climbing exercise

While rock climbing you will have formed a small team to complete each climb

Describe what each team member did and what their responsibilities were

Describe how you ensured that you were capable of belaying a partner on a single pitch climb before taking on the responsibility

Element 1.2 Work to Collective Goals

Summarise the main safety points that you would pass on to a climbing partner when telling them how to use a belay device

Describe how you and your climbing partner organised your climbing experience (ie which climb, who climbed first, communications etc)

Give three examples of occasions when you would have to immediately tell someone of difficulties you were experiencing, while participating in a rock climbing session, which affected your ability to meet your responsibilities

Improving own Learning and Performance

Element 1.1 Identify Targets

Briefly explain, with examples, the skill acquisition and personal achievement targets you were set during the rock climbing session

Describe 3 of your strengths when rock climbing and 3 of your weaknesses

Element 2.1 Follow Schedule to Meet Targets

Give two examples of feedback which you obtained during the rock climbing session and explain how you used this information to set improvement targets for yourself

During the rock climbing session, distinguish between examples of support from others which you found helpful and support which was generally unhelpful

When learning any of the skills during the rock climbing session (i.e. belaying, climbing, putting on a harness etc.), describe any occasions when you needed to make any changes in the way you were operating
