Staff

We feel it is important that staff who work on the range of Outdoor Education programmes at Blue Peris should not just be trained practitioners in the field, but they should be highly committed and engaged educators – who have excellent skills across a range of areas – including facilitation, teaching and outdoor instructor skills. We also believe it is essential that they are enthusiastic and passionate about teaching and working with people.

At Blue Peris we believe our staff tick all the boxes and a variety of staff including the outdoor managers are qualified teachers

Our staff team brings a breadth of professional experience and qualifications in delivering outdoor courses to students from all age groups and varied backgrounds. In addition to this, our staff are very active within the outdoors and are up to date with skills, knowledge and practice.

We are committed to the process of staff development. We encourage all staff to take an active part in meetings, staff training, safety, risk assessment and centre development. This ensures all our staff remain up to date with developments, and moreover that this reflected in the sessions they deliver.

The centre has an Assistant Instructor Training programme that supports the development and progression of younger staff members entering the industry.

Blue Peris was one of the first Outdoor Education Centres to achieve the Investors in People standard.

The Centre is managed by Mark 'Baggy' Richards (BSc-QTS in Outdoor Education and Science and MIC).  The supervisory team is completed by a Deputy Manager, Senior Tutor, Domestic Bursar and Customer Relations Manager. Finally we are supported by a dedicated team of administration and domestic staff.
