Lounge/Meeting Room/Conference Room
This is the main training and meeting room (Harper Room) used in the centre by the students. It is equipped with full av equipment, which includes a wall mounted screen, DVD CD & I-pod player, plus disco facilities. It has comfy chairs and can seat up to 50. In addition to this it has games such as Giant Connect 4.
This can seat all students and visiting staff in one sitting.
Blue Peris has two drying rooms for visiting groups to use to dry clothing. Each of these has a spin drier enabling really wet clothes to be spun before being hung up to dry. Each pupil has their own peg number in one of the drying rooms to use for the week.
Student Sleeping Arrangements
Students sleep in dorms of 8-10 people with a total of 6 dorms - 4 on the first floor and 2 on the second floor. Please note there are no electric sockets in the dorms as they present a fire and trip hazard. All dorms have storage for hanging clothes and storage of suitcases/bags etc.
There are 3 staff bedrooms. A single room is located on the first floor, with double and triple rooms on the second floor. All these rooms have single beds, alarm clock, hairdryer, hanging and storage space, chest of drawers and a digital safe.
This is shared between the centre and visiting staff. It has numerous notice boards and files which contain all relevant information for the smooth running of your course. In addition to this, it is an area where you may relax away from the hustle and bustle of the main centre rooms. It has a fridge, microwave and drinks making facilities are available. All hot drinks and cordial are provided free of charge, not forgetting the selection of legendary Blue Peris cakes.
Student Toilet Facilities
The female shower block is on the first floor and the gents shower block is on the ground floor. Both male and female units have hair dryers; because of electrical safety issues students are asked to not bring their own hair dryers.
Staff Toilet and Shower Facilities
Staff members have their own toilets and showers. Please note only 1 staff bedroom has a shower in and there are no en suite facilities.
The centre has a small but fully equipped and dedicated IT suite; with an interactive white board and 7 computers available for students and staff to use as part of their course programme or during evening activities - for example producing newsletters or producing course blogs.
There are WiFi facilities for staff to use. These are subject to Blue Peris Internet usage policies.
Projectors and Laptops
In all our classrooms there are digital projectors and lap tops available to use.
Round House – The Blue Peris Pavilion
We have a slate round house on site which can be used for meetings, group discussions, and storytelling. In addition to this it can sleep up to 18 (in a squeeze!), with a separate sleeping area for staff. This can be used as an extension to the usual residential experience.
We have a small indoor wall on site. This can be used as an activity run by centre staff as part of a wet weather alternative or by visiting staff on an evening. (This will require on site induction and signing off and is for use without ropes).
The centre has 3 other classrooms which have full AV facilities. One of these has an interactive white board.
Tuck and Souvenir Shop
This enables guests to purchase a range of confectionary, souvenirs and drinks. We can, if required limit the amount students spend and what they purchase on a daily basis. We can also arrange for the shop to be open for just a few days within your course.
Any profit from the shop goes into purchasing educational items for the centre , thus benefiting the students directly.
Garden Seating Area
An outside garden area which has tables and benches allows guests to relax outside.
Located in the hallway of Blue Peris for student use. Course leaders may regulate use of this if they feel the need to. White Peris users will make use of this with liaison with centre staff.
The centre has adequate on site parking, the exception being when we have large adult course in residence. In this instance extra parking is located only minutes away from the centre.
We encourage all groups to visit and experience what the centre has to offer. We ask that all course leaders who have group members with any kind a disability to contact the centre beforehand/in the booking process so we can discuss the individual requirements. We regularly have groups with disabilities. However, the centre, due its old design and location is not 100% designed for the full range of disabilities; therefore a discussion will help us to understand and best address your requirements fully.
The centre has an extensive equipment stores for both land and water activities. We issue all specialist equipment for all our activities and courses. Equipment available for issue to students for personal use are: Rucksack, Balaclava, Waterproof Top and Bottoms, Fleece jumper, wellies and mountain boots. All other equipment is issued appropriately for each activity (wetsuits, harnesses, helmets etc.).
We have a fleet of canoes, sit on top kayaks, sea kayaks and raft build equipment.
The equipment is subject to a rigorous regime of full safety checks meeting industry standard safety recommendations.
