Rock Climbing

An exhilarating and rewarding challenge, rock-climbing actively involves all students, where self-confidence, co-operation, trust and teamwork develop. A range of skills are nurtured to ensure everyone achieves their potential.

Rock climbing can be a physically and mentally demanding sport, one that often tests a climber’s strength, endurance, agility, and balance along with his or her mental control. Knowledge of proper climbing techniques and the correct use of specialized climbing equipment is crucial for the safe completion of routes. For groups doing climbing sessions at the centre the responsibility of safeguarding each other, taking hold of the ropes and managing them, is as important as climbing themselves.

Because of the wide range and variety of rock formations around the world rock climbing has been separated into several different styles and sub-disciplines, including bouldering, indoor climbing, single pitch climbing outdoors and multi-pitch climbing. While not an Olympic event, rock climbing is recognised by the IOC as a sport.

Blue Peris has its own small climbing wall and is within a short distance of three of the best climbing walls in the country. We have a wide variety of outdoor crags nearby ranging from introductory climbs on easy angled rocks overlooking a beautiful lake to harder climbs on the steeper cliffs in the adjacent slate quarries. There are excellent bouldering venues ideally suited to developing technique. And there are stunning sea cliffs and mountain crags accessible too.

We have all of the equipment required for any type of climbing session including the technical footwear required to maximise performance, and highly qualified staff with years of experience of, not only getting the best out of other people, but also pushing their own boundaries too.
