Testimonail

I undertook my Mountain Leader (ML) training with Blue Peris during Easter 2019. I wasn't sure what to expect from the course going in but I'm now really impressed with the amount of content covered during the 6 days.

I now have much more confidence with my existing skills, new skills that I'm excited to develop further and a really good idea of what's expected on the assessment.

Mark, Pete and all the other instructors were very knowledgeable and went out of their way to make sure we understood topics not only to the assessment standard, but thoroughly enough that we could consider the wider implications and consequences of our choices.

If anyone is considering undertaking their ML then I can say you'll be in good hands with Blue Peris!

Thanks Matt

Blue Peris is a long established  provider of The Summer Mountain Leader Award, it is not something we do on an ad hoc basis. We have been delivering courses for over 35 years and all our staff work with young people and adults taking them out into the hills for the first time summer and winter, alongside a mixture of working Scottish winter and trekking in Europe.

Our centre is superbly situated in the heart of Snowdonia overlooking Snowdon itself and the village of Llanberis. This wonderful and inspiring location allows us easy access to all the major mountain ranges of North Wales - where better to undertake your Summer Mountain Leader Training or Assessment course.

We have been approved by Mountain Training Wales / Cymru (MTW) for the delivery of these courses.

Our course ethos is to offer a personal, friendly, and relaxing learning/assessment environment, with an up to date and exciting course programme. Staff are current with the scheme, run workshops for MTA and are members of AMI/MTA

Staff

Our staff are at the heart of what we deliver and this is one of the key strengths of a course at Blue Peris. They are all very enthusiastic, passionate, highly qualified, and experienced in the delivery of the ML Award. Between the current staff our portfolio includes delivery for Glenmore Lodge, D/E Scouts, LEA centres, Plas Y Brenin, PGL, and many other organisations.  In addition to this , staff have taken voluntary roles representing BMC ( Wales ) on the Mountain Training panel and AMI on the Mountain Training England panel.  Mike Jones also delivers the BMC winter skills lectures across the UK.

"My name is Andy Coopland. I live in Nepal and returned to the U.K. last year to complete my Q.M.D.s / ML Training and Assessment at Blue Peris - all in about 10 weeks. It's now been about 11 months since I did my training with Blue Peris. I took the Assessment 2 weeks after that and passed. It was obvious on the Assessment that Blue Peris is a top institution where all the skills needed to lead groups safely and responsibly are taught to a very high standard. You have a great team and I have recommended Blue Peris to many people and companies I have had contact with. Thanks for all your help."

Registration to Undertake your Summer Mountain Leader Award

In order to attend any summer Mountain Leader Training Course within the UK you must be registered with one of the Mountain Training boards that govern the awards, the BMC and what is known as the Candidate Management System ( CMS ).  This whole process is out of the hands of Blue Peris and is what all potential candidates have to follow.

1) Visit the Mountain Training  website by following this link and register - There is no fee for this - Click on the CMS option ( which at the time of writing, is to be found on the top right hand corner of the page ). Once you register you will receive your unique Mountain Training reference number.  This will be yours and will stay the same for life. Imagine this process is like registering for an account with say Amazon, E Bay, Facebook or your car insurance company.

If you have registered for others awards run by Mountain Training  you will already have this unique number. However, if you have not registered onto the CMS you will have to do so.

2 ) If you're not a member of the British Mountaineering Council ( BMC ) then you need to join for 1 year in order to register on the Summer Mountain Leader Award. Follow this link. There is a one off fee for this. You are not able to register for the Summer Mountain Leader Award unless you have a BMC membership number. In the past, if you register on line with the BMC,  it could take up to 10 days to get your BMC membership number.  Therefore, if you're registering with the BMC before attending a training course at the last minuite it is best to phone the BMC to register.

3 ) Finally register for the award with one of the Mountain Traning Boards - There is a one off payment for this stage.
